"I don’t know why I watch this yearly ritual in our backyard; my nightmares persist long after the bloodstains on the grass have faded"
Amir s baffled by the fact that he continues to watch the sacrifice of a sheep which is similar to him watching Hassan being beaten and raped. The nightmares he talks about through the sacrifice are identical to those he has after Hassan's incident. The bloodstains is Hassan's pain and suffering and sadness which ends quicker than Amir's consolation to the fact that he watched and allowed this raping to occur. Amir's guilty sentiments are long lasting and not only do they persist for years after the event but Amir finds it hard to receive consolation for the act he has done.
